With the support of Udokan Copper, a new branch of Trans-Baikal Mining College named after M.I. Agoshkov began its work on 2 September 2024 in the CuprUM educational centre at Novaya Chara School No. 2
Twenty-six students from the Kalarsky district have been enrolled in the first year of the Mineral Processing programme, with places funded by the state. The full-time course will be delivered in-person by teachers from Novaya Chara School No. 2 and lecturers from Trans-Baikal Mining College. The curriculum includes a mentorship scheme, where mentors from Udokan Copper will provide guidance to the students.
“The idea of opening a branch in the Kalarsky district became particularly relevant with the launch of Udokan Copper’s operations. Not only is the company growing, but so is demand for skilled professionals. We have managed to realize a project that allows students to receive an education without having to leave their home district. Furthermore, work placements at the company will be available to them,” explained Olga Deminova, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at Trans-Baikal Mining College.
The students will undergo practical training at Russia’s largest copper deposit, the Udokan mine.
“The opening of a branch of the mining college on the basis of CuprUM marks a new chapter in the history of the education system in the northern Trans-Baikal region. The aim of the project is to provide residents of the Kalarsky district with the opportunity to acquire skills that are in demand and apply their knowledge directly in practice. In the future, we hope to see today’s students among the ranks of our company,” said Alexey Yashchuk, General Director of Udokan Copper.
The educational course at the branch runs 3 years and 10 months. At the end of the programme, students will undergo two forms of assessment: a demonstration exam and the defence of a final project. Students who successfully pass all stages will receive diplomas in secondary specialized education from Trans-Baikal Mining College named after M.I. Agoshkov.
