“Udokan Copper”, the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Far East Development Corporation signed an agreement of intent to build social infrastructure facilities in the settlement of Novaya Chara of the Kalar Municipal District, Trans-Baikal Territory of Russia.

The document was signed on September 3, 2021, on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum, by Deputy Head of the Far East and Arctic Development Ministry, Anatoly Bobrakov, Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, Board Chairman of “Udokan Copper”, Valery Kazikaev, and General Director of the Far East Development Corporation, Igor Nosov.

The project provides for the construction of a cultural and leisure center, a sports and recreation center and a new building of the Kalar Central Regional Hospital.

The parties are planning to implement the project on the basis of a concession agreement as a part of the Far Eastern Concession program developed by the Ministry. The investments into the project are estimated at RUB 5 billion.

“The Trans-Baikal Territory is one of the first in the Far East to use a new tool developed by the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, which allows attracting additional funds fr om the state budget for the construction of social facilities in the north of the region. Ensuring a comfortable and modern social infrastructure there is not an easy task, but it is extremely important, first of all, for several thousands local residents, and second of all, for the successful implementation of the Udokan project. This will allow both attracting as many new residents as possible to the Kalar District, and building new housing accommodations in the north. At the same time, a comfortable infrastructure will give a good impetus to the development of the tourism industry in Kodar", said the governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory Alexander Osipov.

“The Udokan deposit development project is a powerful driver for the development of the Trans-Baikal Territory. Its implementation will lead to the creation of about 3 thousand new jobs in the region. It is crucial to develop a modern urban environment and build social infrastructure in the Novaya Chara settlement, which is closest to the deposit. We have designed new social facilities and have already begun to improve the center of the village. In the future, to develop the territory, we mean to use the mechanism of the concession agreement proposed by the government. Social investment into the territory wh ere we operate is one of our key priorities", said Valery Kazikaev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Udokan Copper”.
