Baikal Mining Company starts construction of power facilities for Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant

Baikal Mining Company signed contracts for the construction of main power infrastructure facilities for Udokan MMP. According to the documents, PMK Sibiri LLC shall perform work package to build 220/35/10 kV substation for Udokan MMP, and ESK Energomost LLC shall construct 220 kV Chara - Udokan MMP high-voltage line. Both contracts are executed on a turn-key basis.

During the works the contractors shall build 22 kms of a high-voltage power line and a new substation designed for operation in harsh highland climatic conditions. Construction of the facilities shall be completed in November 2019.

Baikal Mining Company received a construction permit at the end of 2018 pursuant to the order of the Administration of Kalar Municipal District of Zabaikalye Region.

As General Director of Baikal Mining Company Yury Ryabov pointed out: “Creation of power infrastructure shall enable to provide capacities for the construction of the plant`s main facilities and putting Stage I into operation.”

Please be reminded that Baikal Mining Company is planning to start commissioning works at the end of 2021, and put Stage I of Udokan MMP with the annual capacity of 12 mtpa of ore into operation in 2022. The plant situated in the north of Zabaikalye Region shall produce cathode copper and sulphide concentrate.
